The NCP Saturday Showcase is a feature story that recognizes students, staff and alumni for their exceptional achievements and contributions to the school community. This week, we have the pleasure of recognizing Zayden Wheeler, a seventh grade student at Parke Heritage Middle School.
Zayden's interest in 3-D printing was sparked during a family trip to Florida, where his uncles, Brian and Joe, introduced him to this fascinating technology. Motivated by his newfound passion, Zayden began saving money through various odd jobs. His efforts paid off when he earned a $500 prize for securing second place in a demolition derby. This prize money provided him with the opportunity to purchase his first 3-D printer.
With the purchase of the printer, Zayden launched his business, Z’s 3D Designs. Since July, he has been creating and printing a variety of creatures and items to sell. Recently, he became a new booth vendor at Rockville Retro, which is on the Courthouse square. He plans to update his designs every Wednesday to keep customers interested in his products.
Zayden has been selected to participate in the Kid Entrepreneur Day during the Covered Bridge Festival. He will have a booth set up on the Square in Rockville on Saturday, October 18, offering his creations to festival-goers.
When he's not busy with his 3-D printing endeavors, Zayden enjoys wrestling, soccer, and participating in the science club. His passion for science and engineering fuels his interest in robotics and 3-D printing, aligning with his academic aspirations to attend Purdue University. Zayden is particularly drawn to Purdue's engineering and design programs, as well as their robotics and 3-D printing lab, which offer the perfect environment for him to further his skills and explore his interests.
Zayden's adventure with 3-D printing shows how following what you love can lead to great chances through hard work and dedication. His story inspires others to chase their interests with creativity and determination, highlighting how new ideas and entrepreneurship can help you grow personally and academically.
